On March 12
th 2024, the Royal Mail issued
the stamps set "The Age of the Dinosaurs" and eight
First-Day-of-Issue Postmarks for the stamps set
These stamps were carefully created in partnership with the Natural History Museum in London,
using scientists from no less than six different specializations of palaeontology.
The set includes four pairs of stamps with reconstructions of prehistoric animals
and the Mini-Sheet with four self-adhesive stamps show Mary Anning and some of
the most important fossils she unearthed along the Dorset coastline.
Three additional fossils are shown on the margin on the Mini-Sheet.
Since these stamps are very different, both thematically and artistically,
their descriptions on this website were split into two articles:
[2] The Mini-Sheet show fossils and reconstructions of
Cambrian animals and plants from "Chengjiang Fossil Site" which declared as
the UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2012.

and Aizek Asanbekovich Bakirov, the acting director of the M. M. Adyshev Institute
of Geology of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Wooly Rhino and wooly Mammoth, on Giants of the Ice Age stamps of Switzerland 2024
MiNr.: 2969-2970, Scott:
|
[4]
There is evidence of the existence of these long-haired heavyweights at around 100 locations in the valleys
of the Swiss plateau and Jura mountains.
They lived where the glaciers receded during the warmer periods of the Ice Age, giving way to a
grassy steppe – the ideal environment for mammoths.
One of the richest archaeological sites in Switzerland is Niederweningen (ZH),
home of the Mammoth Museum dedicated to the history of these giants.
These stamps were printed in separate
Mini-Sheets of 10 with text and decorations
on the margins and in combined
Souvenir-Sheet of 4 in the shape of both Ice Age animals.
FDC were issued in three formats:
small (C6) and big (C5)
white covers with 1 or 4 stamps each cancelled by
black ink
First-Day-of-Issue Postmark;
big (C5),
numbered, cover with illustration of a landscape with two stamps cancelled by silver ink
First-Day-of-Issue Postmark and text written in silver colour on the bottom-left side.
Some covers were cancelled by "
Witnesses of the Ice Age" (Zeugen der Eiszeit) postmark
of
Fällanden,
introduced on January 2nd 1999.
The woolly mammoth has captured the hearts of Internet users.
The design featuring this animal, part of the “Giants of the Ice Age” series,
was voted the most beautiful stamp of 2024 [in Switzerland].
This stamp invites you to travel back in time and discover the prehistoric animal kingdom.
The presence of the mammoth in Switzerland has been documented at many sites and dates back around 115,000 years.
...
More than 13,000 people took part in the online vote, which ran from 26 September to 8 December 2024
at swisspost.ch/world-of-stamps.

as well as other evidence of Upper Paleolithic life.
It was discovered on December 18, 1994 and it is considered one of the most significant prehistoric art sites and the UN's cultural
agency UNESCO granted it World Heritage status on June 22, 2014.
Many cave bears from the paintings on the walls of the cave were depicted on the stamp, two of them were depicted on the
